No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving. ~H.U. Westermayer
If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice. ~Meister Eckhart
Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude. ~E.P. Powell
So once in every year we throng
Upon a day apart,
To praise the Lord with feast and song
In thankfulness of heart.

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow. ~Edward Sandford Martin
He who thanks but with the lips
Thanks but in part;
The full, the true Thanksgiving
Comes from the heart.
~J.A. Shedd
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;
For song of bird, and hum of bee;
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings! ~Henry Ward Beecher

France is enduring a sixth national day of strikes and protests over plans to reform the country's pension system.
Mass marches are planned across France while strikes disrupt air travel, trains and schools, and an ongoing refinery blockade hits oil supplies.
The government wants to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62 and the full state pension age from 65 to 67.
President Nicolas Sarkozy insists he will press ahead with pension reforms despite the growing strike movement.
Speaking in Deauville at a summit with the leaders of Russia and Germany, he made a pledge to restore petrol supplies once he had returned to Paris.
"I thought carefully before I decided to go ahead with pension reform. It had been put on hold for too long and could not be put on hold any longer.
"It was a difficult, complex choice, but it was my duty."
But with the Senate due for a final vote this week, protests are planned in more than 200 towns and cities.
The plans are widely unpopular with the public and protests on Monday turned violent in some areas.
Left-wing senators have submitted hundreds amendments in an attempt to delay the vote, although it is now expected to go ahead on Thursday.
Fuel crisis
Tuesday will be France's sixth national day of protests since early September.
In Paris, marchers will set off from the Place d'Italie at about 1330 local time (1130 GMT). A high turnout is expected following the success of the last weekday protest.
Organisers said an estimated 3.5 million people marched a week ago, setting a new record. Police put the figure at 1.2 million.

The unrest has intensified since last week when unions for railway and refinery workers called open-ended action, joined now by truck drivers and delivery workers.
Government ministers stressed the country has plenty of fuel and that airports in particular have ample supply. But by the end of today it's estimated 2,500 service stations will have run short of fuel.
President Sarkozy has formed a crisis cabinet tasked with overseeing the government's response. He refuses to give anymore concessions to the unions and at this point there's no sign either side is likely to back down.
The BBC's Christian Fraser, in Paris, says there is a feeling that the demonstration could turn angry, with a noticeable change in atmosphere since last week.
Ahead of the march there were clashes for a second day between students and police in the Paris suburb of Nanterre. Police fired tear gas to break up angry youths.
Nationally, renewed strikes and an ongoing week-long blockade of France's 12 oil refineries are expected to hit transport networks as well as private fuel supplies.
Half of flights in and out of Paris's Orly airport have been cancelled and 30% of flights at other airports have been affected.
Train operator SNCF said it expected 60% of trains to run on Tuesday, the Le Monde newspaper reported, with Metro and local trains around Paris also expected to keep some services running.
Despite the disruption, one opinion poll on Monday suggested that 71% of those surveyed supported the strikers, despite the increasing effect on people's lives.

There was more opposition among those travelling as the strikes began.
"We shouldn't think it's still acceptable to stop working at 60 years old - we should work until 65. Like other European countries we have to work longer than 60 years," insurance worker Frederic Deraed told the BBC's Matthew Price in Lille.
"It's completely useless," said housewife Nadine Gestas.
"We can't pay the pensions and we can't avoid increasing the age of retirement. Every country in Europe is raising the age of retirement."
But Olivier Sekai of the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) said he saw support increasing for the protests.
"The government is acting as if we didn't have a rich country, as if we didn't have the money. The thing is we do have the money," he told the BBC.
Crisis cabinet
The week-long fuel crisis has added a new dimension to France's public discontent.
One in four supermarket petrol stations are said to have run dry or are on the verge of closing.

Oil company Exxon Mobil has described the situation as "critical". Diesel supplies around Paris or western Nantes would be scarce, a spokeswoman said.
Severe shortages have been reported in Brittany in north-west France and the International Energy Agency says that France has begun tapping into its three-month emergency fuel reserves.
Panic-buying has been blamed for a 50% increase in fuel sales.
Lorry drivers joined the protests on Monday, staging a go-slow on motorways around several cities.
Dozens of oil tankers are anchored off the coast of Marseille because of a strike at two Mediterranean oil ports and, inside the city, rubbish has piled up because of a strike by refuse collectors.
Mr Sarkozy has ordered key ministers to form a crisis cabinet with the role of ensuring the continuity of fuel supplies.
The head of the French Petrol Industries Association, Jean-Louis Schilansky, has said fuel shortages are not yet at crisis point.

Queen opens British Parliament amid pomp and ceremony
By Melissa Gray CNN
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
* State Opening of Parliament usually takes place in November or December
* It is happening in May this year because of Britain's recent elections
* Speech set out new Conservative-Liberal Democrat government's legislative agenda
* Queen announced plans for government to reduce the country's deficit
London, England (CNN) -- Queen Elizabeth II officially opened the new session of Britain's parliament Tuesday, using her annual speech to set out the new Conservative-Liberal Democrat government's legislative agenda.
The State Opening of Parliament, as it is called, usually takes place in November or December. It is happening in May this year because of Britain's recent elections, which ushered in the country's first coalition government for 70 years and give the event added significance.
Even though the queen delivers the speech, it is actually written by the government and approved by the Cabinet, symbolizing the right of lawmakers to debate without interference from the monarch. As a result, the queen "confirms" key bills and measures, rather than announcing them.
On Tuesday the queen announced plans for the government to reduce the country's burgeoning deficit, restore economic growth, and create a new Office for Budget Responsibility to provide "confidence in the management of the public finances."
There are also plans to modernize the Royal Mail, the queen said, which hints at the partial privatization of the UK's main postal service. There will also be limits on the number of workers coming to the United Kingdom from countries outside the European Union, she said.
Special: Britain's general election
"My government will propose parliamentary and political reform to restore trust in democratic institutions and rebalance the relationship between the citizen and the state," the queen announced.
Some of those reforms include a referendum on a new voting system for members of the House of Commons; fewer and more "equal-sized constituencies;" and the right of voters to recall elected lawmakers who are found guilty of serious wrongdoing.
There will also be proposals to make the House of Lords "wholly or mainly elected," the queen said.
Profile: Britain's new Prime Minister
Efforts to protect civil liberties include abolishing plans for a national identity card, the queen said. Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg pledged last week to do away with the ID cards in addition to second-generation biometric passports and have more regulation over surveillance cameras and the DNA database.
Parliament and the British people will also be able to have a say in the proposed transfer of any more powers to the European Union, the queen said.
Traditional symbols of parliamentary privilege at the state opening include Black Rod, the name given to a senior officer in the House of Lords, the unelected chamber of Parliament. Before the queen makes her speech, Black Rod is always sent from the Lords' chamber to the Commons to summon those members to hear the speech.
By tradition, the door of the Commons is slammed in Black Rod's face to symbolize the Commons' independence. Black Rod then uses his staff to knock on the door three times, at which point the door to the Commons Chamber is opened, and members follow him back to the House of Lords.
Take a tour of Britain's political heart
The queen delivers the speech from the throne in the House of Lords. When it's over, both houses of Parliament debate the contents of the speech for four or five days.
Traditions surrounding the state opening and delivery of a speech by the monarch can be traced to at least the 16th century, according to the parliament's web site. The current ceremony dates from 1852, when the Palace of Westminster reopened after the fire of 1834.
From Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster -- the seat of government -- the queen traveled in a black and gold horse-drawn carriage, escorted by members of the Household Cavalry wearing their distinctive gold-colored helmets with tall red plumes.
On the queen's arrival at Westminster, the Union Jack is lowered and the royal standard raised on the flagpole outside. The queen puts on the white parliamentary robe and purple Imperial State Crown, set with more than 3,000 precious stones, including the 317-carat Cullinan II diamond, and weighing two pounds (0.91 kilograms).
The houses of Parliament are still searched by the Yeomen of the Guard, the Queen's ceremonial bodyguards, just before the state opening. The tradition dates back to the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, when plotter Guy Fawkes was arrested in the cellar while preparing to blow up the parliament.
The checks are considered "picturesque," according to Parliament, with more serious searches done by police.
Another tradition is that of the "hostage" lawmaker. When the queen leaves Buckingham Palace to travel to Parliament, a member of the government is held at the palace to guarantee the monarch's safe return, according to the palace.
The "hostage" is released once the queen returns.

Happy Mother's Day!!! Bonne Fête des Mères!!!
Thank GOD for great MOTHERS who dared to train their children in the way of the LORD!!! - Grace Obaigbona
A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavour by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.
- Inspirational sayings by Washington Irving
Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs... since the payment is pure love.
- saying by Mildred B. Vermont
Life is nothing but a series of crosses for us mothers.
- Colette
Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother.
- Oprah Winfrey sayings
Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love.
- Stevie Wonder
Mama exhorted her children at every opportunity to 'jump at de sun.' We might not land on the sun, but at least we would get off the ground.
- Cute saying by Zora Neale Hurston
A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.
- Famous Tenneva Jordan
This heart, my own dear mother, bends, with love's true instinct, back to thee!
- Thomas Moore
God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.
The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.

Grace,
Happy mother's day!
Below is a poem which I composed some time ago and I'm sending it to you now;
Mother
So gentle, yet so strong
A dependable source of comfort
A blessing from above.
Love is a mother's gift
You show it in many ways
The fruit of the Spirit is displayed in you everyday
Indeed,your children shall arise and call you blessed!

Goodluck Jonathan sworn in as president 6th MAY 2010.
Nigeria's acting President Goodluck Jonathan has been sworn in as head of state following the death of President Umaru Yar'Adua after a long illness.
The ceremony took place in the presidential villa in Abuja
Mr Jonathan, in charge since February, will appoint a deputy and serve out the rest of the current presidential term until elections due next year.
Mr Yar'Adua died late on Wednesday in the capital Abuja. TV broadcasts were interrupted with the news.
Seven days of national mourning have been announced.
Mr Jonathan took the oath of office in front of government ministers and other officials at the presidential villa in Abuja almost 12 hours after Mr Yar'Adua died. The ceremony was performed by Chief Justice of Nigeria Alloysius Katsina-Alu.
Mr Yar'Adua, who was 58, will be buried in a Muslim ceremony later on Thursday in his northern home state of Katsina, officials said.
US President Barack Obama has led tributes from world leaders, praising Mr Yar'Adua's profound personal decency and integrity" and his "passionate belief in the vast potential and bright future of Nigeria's 150 million people".
Mr Yar'Adua had been absent from the political scene since November, when he went to a hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for several months.
During that time he was not heard from, apart from a BBC interview. He returned to Nigeria in February but remained too sick to govern.

BILL GAITHER; BECAUSE HE LIVES
Bill Gaither - Because He Lives lyrics | LyricsMode.com
Songwriters: Gaither, Gloria; Gaither, William
Matthew 28:6
"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.
Come, see the place where the Lord lay."
God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!
Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!
Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
And then one day, I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict'ry,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!
Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
Shackled by a heavy burden,
'Neath a load of guilt and shame.
Then the Hand of Jesus touched me,
And now I am no longer the same.
Refrain
He touched me,
Oh, He touched me,
And oh the joy that floods my soul.
Something happened and now I know,
He touched me and made me whole.
Since I met the Blessed Saviour,
Since He cleansed and made me whole,
I will never cease to Praise Him!
I'll shout it while eternity rolls.
Refrain
He touched me,
Oh, He touched me,
And oh the joy that floods my soul.
Something happened and now I know,
He touched me and made me whole.
(repeat the refrain 2 times)
He touched me and made me whole.
